In the early twentieth century Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin presented his project for a rigid airship in Germany. In 1900 he built the first airship but a mechanical defect led to its failure. He tried again in 1908 but a fire on board destroyed it. To start a new project he needed quite a lot of money and one of his patrons was Ernst Paul Lehmann, he too convinced that this means of transportation could become a reason of pride for Germany. Lehmann manufactured several versions of toy airship that differed in size and operation. The EPL II airship was modelled on the plan of the LZ 127 that Graf Zeppelin designed in 1928. It hangs by a string and moves in a circle thanks to a pair of celluloid propellers on the rear.
