Japanese typical carved wood horse. This toy has an ancient tradition and has its origins in Japanese folktales. Legend goes that in the early nineteenth during a battle against the barbarians, 100 wooden horses magically appeared and let the Japanese army survive and win. People thought that Buddha attended with his magical intervention and for this reason the first sculptures were carved from a single piece extracted from sculpture’s scrap wood of this deity. Tomo was donated to the Museum by Tomo Kobayashi, citizen of Tokamachi city (twin city with Como), in 2005.
